September 4, 2014 - The LCI Social

Tonight we saw the perks of being the roommate of an LCI student - we got informed that apparently every Thursday night at 8, there's a social held for the exchange students here.  I guess they just get to invite lots of people to the LCI director's apartment to play games, talk, and chill out.  Clare and I were both sort of iffy about going, but we decided after the third person invited us that we ought to buckle down and show up.

We went with Monika (our roommate) when she went, and it was actually incredibly fun!  We ended up sitting at a table with Molly Clarahan (a colleague of Maria's in the bio department), who is adopted from China and very enthusiastic about it, her boyfriend Michael Schmiesing (who was in honors), Ben (a sophomore whose older brother I know), David the Hungarian student, Jamie Leatherby (education major in Maria's household, you've heard about her before), and Kakhar, an exchange student from Georgia.  I can't tell if Kakhar is just very very quiet, or if he doesn't speak very good English, but he seemed nice even for being very shy.

We played several games of Uno - we crammed everyone into a very small room, so there were people at the Uno table and then people in the kitchen area standing around talking over the snacks and drinks.  I learned a new version of the game that they taught us that's more interactive and runs very fast-paced.

Not to mention that, but I think one/both of the twins wants to be my friend or something, he's been waiting outside doors to wave at me and smile and make sure I don't want to go in through the door (if I do, he opens it for me).  It's very curious behavior but it's nice of him.  Whoever he is.  Whichever one he is.  Or maybe both.

Tomorrow at 7:30 the buses leave for Vienna!  Hopefully we'll get to see some nice sights.  If David sets his heart on trekking all over without stopping for rest or to see anything or take in the sights, though, I might end up telling him to just meet us somewhere in like an hour or two, because the last trip was admittedly a bit frenetic, and if we end up racing around Vienna for two days straight, my feet are guaranteed to fall off.

  1. You'll have to teach me the new version of Uno!!!!!!! I love that game but it can be boring just taking turns.
